  • Occupation:
David Farris (NE '72) will have his first novel published late this October [2003]. Lie Still is a novel of medical suspense, though unusual in the way the story hinges on real-life ethical quandaries. Michael Ruhlman, author of Walk on Water: Inside an Elite Pediatric Surgical Unit calls it "a genuine ethical thriller." Others have labeled it "'ER' on steroids."

Sarah Durand, the book's editor at Wm. Morrow and Co., says, "It's going to do for medical thrillers what Scott Turow did for legal thrillers because the author thinks outside the box."

Dr. Farris is a pediatric anesthesiologist with years of experience in emergency care, which is why Durand can say, "There is a great deal of heart-pounding medical detail here." The author is from Fremont, Nebraska, but he now lives and practices in Portland, Oregon.
