Reunion Dinner

The reunion dinner will be held at the historic First Parish Cambridge church in Harvard Square on Saturday, August 7, 2010 at 6:30 pm. First Parish is located at 3 Church Street, Cambridge, MA 02138 and is a 10-minute walk from the Lesley dorms. Our dinner will be taking place in the Parish House. Please dress comfortably as the church is not air conditioned, but there are fans for ventilation.

Even if you are unable to participate in all the weekend’s activities, we encourage you to come join us for the reunion dinner!

The fifth and current Meeting House for First Parish Church was built in 1833, and Harvard College commencements were held in it until 1873. Here Presidents Everett, Sparks, Walker, Felton. Hill and Eliot were inaugurated, and in 1837, Ralph Waldo Emerson gave his Phi Beta Kappa oration on "The American Scholar." President Eliot was for many years a leading layman of this congregation. The Parish House was built in 1902, and the interior of the Meeting House was remodeled in 1914. The Crothers chapel was dedicated in 1941.

Menu

The menu is tentatively scheduled to feature clam chowder, lobster rolls, and mini roast beef sandwiches from Kelly’s Roast Beef (also famous for their seafood). The vegetarian option will be a butternut squash polenta with oyster mushroom ragout from a local vegetarian restaurant. Dinner will include beverages and choice of salads. Desserts will be served back at Lesley. Note: this menu is subject to change.

Directions

We encourage everyone to use public transportation if at all possible, as Harvard Square is a maze of one way streets and it is easy to get lost. Take the Red Line to the Harvard Square subway stop; exit via Church Street. Cross Church Street, which will be just to your right as you emerge, and the church will be in front of you. Walk down to the 3 Church Street entrance for our event.

If you happen to come out via the main entrance from the Harvard Square Red Line station instead, cross Massachusetts Ave to the Harvard Coop building. Go right and walk one block to Church Street. First Parish is on the corner of Massachusetts Ave and Church Street.

If you live in the suburbs, we urge you to consider driving to the Alewife, Braintree or Quincy Adams stations on the Red Line, then taking the subway into Harvard Square.

If you are driving, there is the small Church Street Parking Lot at 41 Church Street just a few doors down from the church; however it is usually full on weekend nights. Rates are $8/hr after 5 pm. Another option that is a little farther away is University Place Garage at 124 Mount Auburn Street. Rates are $12 flat fee after 5 pm on weekends.
