NYSCAA 48th Reunion in Minneapolis

Reunion Update – Save the Date: August 18-21, 2011, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota

Planning is underway for the 2011 NYSC Alumni Association Reunion to be held Thursday, August 18 to Sunday, August 21 in Minneapolis/St. Paul. We’re working out the details, so check nyscaa.org for updates. Here’s what we know so far.

We’re targeting the Mall of America area for a hotel site, as the rates appear to be competitive and most have free shuttles to and from the airport. In addition, there is a light rail service that runs from the Mall to downtown Minneapolis with stops at Target Field, where the Twins play. (Good news: The Twins are in town August 18-21, which coincides exactly with our reunion weekend. Bad news: The Yankees are in town. Bad not because we don't like the Yankees, but bad because that's an insanely popular ticket.)

There are tons of great things to do in the area: the Science Museum of Minnesota, the Minneapolis Institute of the Arts, the Guthrie Theatre, The Walker Art Gallery, The Mall of America, Uptown (a funky collection of restaurants, bars, shops), and Como Park and Zoo. The weather is usually warm and temperate with low humidity – even in August. It’s a beautiful time to explore the “Minneapple” with your science camp friends and family.

Usually the flow of the reunion is that people arrive when they’re able to – some people come for a week and make a vacation of it, some take one or two weekdays, some come for just the weekend. There’s usually an alumni business meeting on Saturday or Sunday morning and a banquet style dinner Saturday night, with lots of opportunities for group activities, socializing and meals during the week and into the weekend. We aim to be inclusive and encourage you to bring your families, too.

Two local alums – John Reinhart Nash (NY87) and Raj Madhok (ND77) have generously volunteered to help us coordinate local activities. If you’re willing to help with planning, please send an email to . If you’re interested in attending, send us an email, too; it will be helpful in planning.

Check back frequently for updates – we’ll be adding details and registration information as it gets finalized. Looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible there!
